Is your fee proposal profitable?
Enter the amount of the proposal, the hours you expect to spend and what an hour of work costs your practice. You will see at once what the proposal pays per hour, what you keep, and when it starts costing you money.

What your proposal tells you
€12,000 for 120 hrs planned. An hour costs you €75: each planned hour earns you €25.
If the project stays within its 120 hrs, you keep €3,000, or 25% of the fees. Your target of 20% is met.
Beyond 160 hrs, the proposal loses money. You have planned 120 hrs: that leaves you 40 hrs of leeway.
Every hour spent beyond what you planned costs you €75 and lowers the margin by 0.6 percentage points.
What if a stage overruns?
A project rarely slips everywhere at once: most of the time, one stage takes longer than planned. Choose it and move the slider.
“Design” goes from 36 hrs to 46.8 hrs, which is 10.8 hrs more. Each hour is now sold at only €91.74, and the margin falls to €2,190, or 18.3% of the fees. Your target of 20% is no longer met, but the proposal is still profitable.
| Planned | With this overrun | |
|---|---|---|
| Hours | 120 hrs | 130.8 hrs |
| Effective hourly rate | €100 | €91.74 |
| Margin | €3,000 | €2,190 |
| Margin as % of fees | 25% | 18.3% |

This calculation is a snapshot taken when you write the proposal. In ArchiTek, every hour the team records is compared with the hours sold, stage by stage: you see an overrun while it is happening, when there is still time to act.
